Traveling in Style: Seychelles

The travel bug is setting back in and we have our eyes on the gorgeous Seychelles. I wouldn’t mind lounging by the beach, scuba diving with the fishes, and enjoying delicious dishes from the islands right about now. Back in October we were all about heading off to the Isle of Skye, but now we want to heat things up in a tropical paradise. See how we have been completely inspired by the Seychelles starting with our favorite Seychelles sights to see…

Visiting Seychelles:

Be a part of the Carnaval International de Victoria from April 24th to the 26th to celebrate the many cultures of our world. There will be decorated floats and representatives of the world’s best carnivals there.

See if you can spot giant tortoises on Curieuse Marine National Park

Take a dive off Praslin Island and then enjoy your catch with a Creole BBQ.

Soak up the sun on this award-winning beach said to be the most beautiful beach in the world.

Taste flavors from all over the world while getting hands on experience in preparing these tasty meals in gorgeous open air kitchens at Adam & Eve.

The French colonial Kenwyn House built in 1885 is a must-see architectural hotspot.

Hike up to Mission Lodge for one of the most spectacular views of the crystal blue sea and majestic mountains.

Comfy sandals that will go with any outfit.

Don’t forget chocolate!

Sriracha Cauliflower Hot Wings

Sriracha Cauliflower Hot Wings

My sisters have been giving the whole30 program a try this month, and while I can’t seem to be disciplined enough to hop on board, I have become more conscious of making healthier choices (that’s good enough, right?). We’ve also had quite a few parties lately, so Jaime, Jacinda, and I brainstormed some recipes and came up with this crowd-pleasing appetizer that still fits into my healthier alternative category. They are easy to make and were a hit on game day.

A few others to add to the menu: Señor Caesar Jalapeno Poppers | Kale Chips | Homemade Cheez-Its | Sweet Zucchini Pickles | Mango Sriracha Popsicles

Digitally Disconnect and Create a Woven Cork Board Family Base Center

This post is sponsored and inspired by VTech.

I am obsessed with getting organized this year. I want the whole family to put down our “screens” and digitally detox, but I still want to keep everything together, without the help of gadgets. When VTech asked to sponsor a post on Pretty Prudent in support of their cordless phones, it was the perfect excuse to get to work creating a prettier version of the “refrigerator door” organization-concept my mom worked so well with for all those years. It’s the ideal “analog” system, combined with a VTech cordless phone that is affordable and durable, with oh-so-crisp speakerphone quality, call-waiting, and up to 14 minutes of voicemail; but without the social media, games, and apps from which we need a break.

How to Weave on a Cork Board I decided to take my latest craft obsession, weaving, and combine it with my new obsession with organization to create this woven cork board, then use it as a family base station to hold our calendar, shopping lists, school notices, tickets, and more.

How to Weave on a Cork Board Watch the video above for the step-by-step tutorial to create a warp using just thumbtacks and string, then weave it with yarn for a textural, beautiful take on the family base station.

Thank you to VTech for making this awesome phone, sponsoring this DIY Video, and inspiring us to participate in a digital detox by creating this DIY family base station, which will be the hub of our home.

The Case for an Un-Romantic Valentine’s Day

The Case for an Unromantic Valentine's Day Yes, that’s right. Every year I go out of my way to plan the least romantic Valentine’s Day possible. I am, in fact, in charge of Valentine’s Day in my household. It’s been this way since the first Valentine’s Day after I met my husband.

Back then (what was this, 2004? 2003? I can’t even remember my memory is slipping in my old age), a date meant that we were meeting at 10 p.m. to go dancing at Star Shoes or Skaties or some other Hollywood night club that has since ceased to exist. As Valentine’s Day approached, Carleton became visibly uncomfortable when the topic came up. One night, as we did some young childless-person thing like sitting at a bar, I asked him what his thoughts were about the impending love-day. He was gentle, but honest in telling me that he just thought it was an unfair holiday.

Unfair? Tell me more. After the jump… (more…)
