DIY Shibori Pouf

DIY Shibori PoufWe are bringing a burst of shibori to the party with these DIY Shibori Poufs. Unlike Jacinda, I don’t exactly have a knack for painting with watercolor, so this project was perfectly forgiving. You can use these poufs to decorate for parties and to brighten up your home. Right now I have mine hanging over my office space. Grab a handful of coffee filters and let’s get started!

Smörgåstårta: Swedish Sandwich Cake

Smörgåstårta: Swedish Sandwich Cake
While I love to decorate cakes, I will usually opt to consume calories of the savory variety. I mean I will totally eat both but if I have to chose I’m Team Potato Chip. So imagine my delight when Jaime introduced me to a food that combined my passion for fancy food presentation and bagel plates. May I present Smörgåstårta, or Swedish Sandwich Cake. I had to make one.

Valentine’s Day Gift Guide

We have hearts in our eyes this week for everything in our Valentine’s Day Gift Guide. I’m loving these gem eraser rings for classroom valentines, Jaime adores her rose gold flats (perfect for her un-romantic Valentine’s Day outfit), and Jacinda is planning out a tasty cocktail with this mixer to celebrate.  There is a bit of something for everyone, including a few handmade gift ideas too.

DIY Heart-Shaped Tea Bags

DIY Heart-Shaped Tea Bags
It looks like we have six more weeks of winter, huh? I can’t exactly complain about the winter we’ve been having here in LA, but I know a good portion of you could use some warming up right about now. Since I’m a big tea drinker I wanted to make these DIY Heart-Shaped Tea Bags for Valentine’s Day. I plan to put them in little gift baskets for friends with a card that says something sweet and silly like You’re Tea-rrific and You warm my heart. Right now though, I plan to enjoy a cup with one of Jaime’s heart scones.

Marching Band Party: A Dream Come True!

Marching band party A few years ago on a wild Saturday night, Jaime and I were having a chat on the phone about party themes that we thought were owed their moment in the spotlight. Unique party themes that had so much potential but had never had a chance to shine. I remember that there was a impressive range from the ingenious to the hilarious, and the best ideas somewhere in the middle. But the idea that we couldn’t get out of our minds was a Marching Band Party.
Alt Winter 2015 Brooke Denniswww.justinhackworth.comwww.justinhackworth.comIMG_0287So when we heard that Alt was holding a contest with sponsor Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Stores, to find the perfect mini parties for Winter Alt Summit, we knew that it was the perfect moment for our dream party. Well, that dream came true and we are so excited to share all of the details right here!

The Most Delicious No-Peanut Peanut Sauce Recipe

Peanut-Free Peanut Sauce RecipeIf you live a peanut-free life (or send your kid to a peanut-free school) this recipe for peanut-free “peanut” sauce will be perfect for you. If you are free to eat all the peanuts, then I’ve included the peanut-full version as well.

Peanut-Free Peanut Sauce RecipeWe love thai food, and tend to make chicken satay on the regular. We also enjoy piling up a bunch of leftovers on the dining table, pulling out a big bowl of warm water and a stack of rice papers, and making spring rolls at the table. Kids love this btw, it’s a great method for getting them to try new foods. We usually include greens, grated carrots, hard boiled eggs, fresh herbs (thai basil, mint), and shrimp or leftover chicken, or beef, or really whatever we have. Then I make up a few extra for lunch the next day.

This peanut sauce makes a tasty accompaniment while making an all-vegetable roll feel heartier. And now you can make it peanut-free. This recipe is Scarlet-approved, and it only takes a couple of minutes to whip up. Get my recipe for No-Peanut Peanut Sauce after the jump… (more…)

Savory Pesto Monkey Bread Recipe

Savory Pesto Monkey Bread 2
Are you going to a superbowl party this weekend? I am! I was pondering what to bring for the feast, and I thought something you can eat with your hands would be ideal, and monkey bread popped into my mind. Usually this is a sweet treat (our Chai Monkey Bread Recipe and Lemon Monkey Bread Recipe are favorites), but I thought it could be just as fun and maybe even more delicious in a savory version. Savory Pesto Monkey Bread Step 2

I grabbed some pesto and sun dried tomatoes from the pantry, and a little cheese, and got to work. This recipe is surprisingly simple to make, but will look very impressive to your party going friends. Savory Pesto Monkey Bread

Most importantly, it’s delicious. Get our Savory Pesto Monkey Bread Recipe after the jump… (more…)
