To kick off our Beginner’s Guide to Crafting with Clay, I’m going to show you how to make a clay dish in any size in under thirty minutes. It’s crazy easy, I promise. As a beginner it might be best to start with something small, like this ring dish, and then work your way up from there. Don’t worry, I’ll show you how to glitz it up with gold too.

It’s a snowy March morning here in Texas but guess what just arrived on my doorstep to brighten my day? My first copy of our book, Pretty Prudent Home! Jaime had promised me that it would be an amazing feeling to hold my own book in my hands and she was right! I just wish that she was here, rather than in sunny California so that we could look at it together. Actually, I wish that I was there in sunny California, brrr. In honor of this exciting day, I thought I would share the story of the cover. We love it and think it’s perfect but the designer in me can’t help but explain the process that lead us to this beauty. Isn’t the illustration by Sonya Lee Benham perfect? I don’t think I will ever in my life get sick of looking at it.

Last week for Pretty Prudent happy hour we enjoyed a delicious Grapefruit and Rosemary Beer Cocktail. We thought we’d keep with the same theme, but put an Irish twist on things since St. Patrick’s Day is just a hop, skip, and jig away. Since I was an Irish dancer for about twelve years of my life, St. Patrick’s Day has always been a major holiday in my book. It usually consisted of dancing show after show all day long and then on through the weekend. I haven’t performed in years, but I still celebrate my Irish heritage with parties and lots of gold and green.

Our big girls Scarlet and Clare (almost 7 & 8 years old, can you believe it?) don’t get to see each other often so they love to catch up on the phone. I’ve been working hard to not let our crazy after school schedule get in the way of healthy dinners. I’m on the look out for stuff I can prepare quickly earlier in the day and then pop in the oven for a fast and awesome meal when we get home. My kids have recently fallen in love with fish so this foil-baked rainbow trout, basically the perfect easy fish recipe, is our new favorite quick healthy dinner.

I have spent the last week packing up for a big migration to the Pacific Northwest. Although the sunny skies of LA have been a treat, I’m looking forward to being surrounded by stunning shades of green. The other day was especially grueling, so Grant brought home a case of IPAs. He is a beer drinker, and I lean more towards cocktails, so we melded them together to make this refreshing Grapefruit & Rosemary Beer Cocktail.
