Pretty Prudent Wishlist: For the Traveler

for the travelerWe are saying bon voyage to our sixth annual holiday wishlists (sniff, sniff) with our favorite gifts for the traveler. This has been a year of many adventures for Jaime, Jacinda, and I, so we are especially excited to share travel essentials we love and others that we’d love to have. Let’s get started!

If you’re still stumped on gift ideas, check out our other wishlists: For the Crafter |  For the DudesFor JaimeFor Jacinda | For the Kids | Our Favorite Books for Kids |

Fight off the cold with this fleece-lined padded vest for girls from Boden.

A Map of the World: The World According to Illustrators and Storytellers makes for a colorful coffee table book for your favorite traveler. It’s a great place to start when you’re planning your next adventure.

Keep baby comfy on your winter travels with the High Performance Footmuff from Bugaboo. It works for any season and has two detachable covers – one is polyester padded for the warmer months and the other is down-filled for winter.

I have been eyeing the Rolling Carry-On from Filson for quite some time now. I prefer to travel with just a carry-on, so I think this could be a great option because it’s durable enough to handle frequent travels, but still has style.

Bring your coffee, tea, or cocktail in a Leather Traveler’s Mug from Orn Hansen.

Be inspired to travel all year long with the gorgeous Travel the World calendar from Rifle Paper Co.

Stay warm on a camping trip with the Lumberlander Wool Blanket designed by Best Made Company and made by Pendleton Woolen Mills.

A sturdy, yet stylish, pair of waterproof Sorel boots from Zappos are great for outdoor adventures.

Jacinda loves her new Heritage Plaid Thermos by Genuine Thermos Brand that has a wonderfully classic print. Fill it up with hot cocoa on your next family campout.

When I visited Iceland my friends at Reykjavik Trading Co. sent me home with their handmade leather tags. Mine hasn’t left my bag since. Wrap up a travel gift and use these as the gift topper instead of a bow. You can order them or pick them up at Reyjkavik Outpost in Los Angeles.

Don’t let your phone slip from your fingers by adding a Leather iPhone strap from Photojojo.

Keep your gadgets charged up with the tech version of the Swiss army knife, the Utility Charge Tool from DCI.

Whether you’re in the woods or in a 5-star hotel, you can brew a delicious cup of coffee to remind you of home with The Voyager Brew Kit from Stumptown

Give a fellow adventurer a waterproof and insluated Outpost 2L Jacket from Poler.

If he is getting a little burly while on the road, throw in a Travel Shave Kit from The Art of Shaving into his stocking.

Bugaboo and Storksak have collaborated to make this beautiful Leather Diaper Bag that is filled with plenty of storage, without making it feel too bulky. Along with the bag, you can always throw in a new wool baby blanket for the new mom.

A kids’ knitted beanie and scarf from Boden is a little something extra you can throw in for the upcoming winter trip.

The Privacy Pop Bed Tent comes in handy when you’re traveling with the kiddos, especially if there is a time change. It fits most standard bed sizes and helps reduce light for some easy shuteye.

If you’re feeling crafty, give your traveler a waterproof, handmade Canvas and Leather Lunch Bag. Taking it with you camping or for a picnic in the city.

L:A Bruket Travel Kit from Anthropologie comes complete with organic shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and soap so you can feel squeaky clean on the road.

When Jaime’s packing a travel bag, she always stores socks and underwear in one cotton drawstring bag, like these from The Made and Found, and packs another empty one to stash her dirties during the trip.

IMG_8580-s

Sew a Splash-Proof bag for toiletries or your gadgets.

Jacinda loves how durable this Lightning Cable is from JunoPower. With its high quality design it is made to hold up twice as long as the standard lightning cable, which makes it great for holding up through frequent travels.

We are big fans of Tanner Goods in fact, last year Jaime and I both got our misters custom leather belts at their shop in Los Angeles. This year though, we’d love to treat ourselves to their Leather Camera Strap .

Mark your travels on this Cork Globe from CB2. Where do you think you want to go next?

Travel in style by dressing your phone in the beautiful Clear Rosa iPhone case from Rifle Paper Co. It has a rubber edge and strong shell to keep your phone protected, but is also so gorgeous.

IMG_0004

I was so thrilled when Woodsnap sent me two of my photos from my Iceland adventure printed on wood. The image quality was incredibly sharp on both of them, down to the smallest details. I find that many of my photos just stay on the computer, so it’s been such a treat to be reminded of this trip every time I see this hanging on my wall.

Keep track of all the places you’ve visited with the Luckies of London Scratch Map. This has been a favorite travel item of ours!

Finally, you can’t go wrong treating the traveler to a new pair of V-MODA headphones. They fold up to minimize on space during travel, and have a comfortable fit for long plane flights, car rides, or train trips.

DIY Beaded Bottle Lamp

This post was sponsored and inspired by the amazing WEMO® line of products.

Have you ever fallen in love with a lamp? I have. Many times. But fancy lamps can be so spendy! I wanted a new lamp for my living room end table, and I wanted it to have a bit of a boho vibe, with some rustic touches and a dash of turquoise. I also did not want to spend hundreds of dollars on it, so of course in true prudent fashion, I whipped one up myself. You can do it too! Watch the video above for the super simple DIY instructions.

DIY Beaded Bottle Lamp

I’m so in love with my new beaded lamp! This project cost less than $40 and took about an hour. Don’t worry, the video is not an hour long. I think I achieved my boho lighting goals, would you agree? The best part is the WEMO® LED lighting, which tops off my boho styling by emitting a warm glow that I can dim for any occasion – using my PHONE! So cool.

WEMO® is giving a whole set of their amazing products away right here on Pretty Prudent, so watch the video above, and then find out how to enter the giveaway after the jump…

Prop up a hideaway filled with gifts with this teepee made by House In Habit.

The Bambi Deer Doll from Smitten for the Wee Generation makes for the cutest cuddle buddy.

I fell in love with this Denim and leather apron by Nico Nico and desperately want to get it for every child I know.

We can’t get enough of the GoldieBlox collections, including theGoldieBlox and The Spinning Machine and the GoldieBlox and The Movie Machine. Scarlet has been testing her directorial skills with movies galore.

Bundle up Baby with this knitted jacketcosy pointelle mix-and-match pack of jammies, and a new set of winter socks from Mini Boden.

Jake and the Neverland Pirates

Gordon watches Jake and the Never Land Pirates every Friday on Disney Junior at 8:30am/7:30c and has played with his Lego® Duplo Jake’s Pirate Ship Bucky literally every day since October. I’m guessing Santa will be bringing more of the set for him this Christmas.

If you have the urge to splurge for some handcrafted gems this year, order this amazing Fonts puzzle from Looodus?

How cute are these Italian-made PePe saddle shoes sold at the Little Skye Boutique?

For the little ones in the winter cold, send a Winter Set Gift Box from Elks and Angels.

Give their bedroom a small makeover, starting with this Fly High and Dream Big Duvet Cover from RedBubble. They are cozy and come in a huge variety of prints.

Give a gift that gives back this year by picking up the adorable Mkango the Lion or one of his many friends from the Dsenyo Collection. These gifts are hand-stitched by a fair trade women’s cooperative in Malawi that helps to empower women by helping them work their way out of poverty.

We adore the modern style of this wooden Woodpecker Baby Walker from Amazon.

For the little crafter, consider picking up a Make Your Own Mermaid Kit and the Invent Your Own Insect Kit from Seedling. Their mini kits, like the Make Mini Mermaids Kit are the perfect size for stocking stuffers.

Word on the street is the Boneau kids might have some goodies in store for them, like maybe this Beginner’s Science Lab and Build-It-Yourself Woodworking Kit from Lakeshore.

Kick them out the door (ahem) I mean, send them off to school after the holidays with a new lunch bag, like this Batman Soft Lunch Bag from Genuine Thermos. It might just make their return to school after the long break a little bit easier…maybe.

Periodic-Table-Stencil-Art-Hero

You can top off their science lab with a piece of personalized Period Table of Elements Art you can make yourself.

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Disney Junior.

Cruising from my Kid’s Perspective

test

Last week we skipped our usual turkey fest in favor of an intimate family vacation. Scarlet, Carleton, and myself spent 7 days at sea on the Carnival Valor relaxing, playing, exploring, and also doing quite a bit of eating.

test

Scarlet fancies herself a photographer, so we got her her very own (waterproof) camera, and told her to document the trip for us.

test

I also nabbed it a few times to snap some pics of her.

test

From island to island across the Southern Caribbean; from Camp Carnival (three cheers for kids’ club!) to under the sea, she had a BLAST and took some great pics. Discover what cruising is like from a kid’s point of view.

test

Hint: It’s rad.

Come Hang out with Me on Saturday!!

Canon Pixma

Y’all know I’m a Canon lady when it comes to photography and printers (I seriously LOVE my Canon PIXMA printer and constantly push them on all of my friends – you can print wirelessly even directly from your CAMERA. Hello even my mother can do that, and she can’t even text). So when Canon asked me to attend their “Let it Snow” Globe event with Bryce Dallas Howard (swoon) on Saturday, December 13th at Hollywood & Highland, I was thrilled to say yes. Come on out and join me! We will be getting started at 10 a.m. and it’s going to be so fun!

Canon North Pole PIXMA App
You can bring the whole family (I’m bringing mine!) and check out a bunch of really cool holiday wonders, including a three-story snow globe, a giant gingerbread house, ice sculptures and more! Attendees can capture all of the merriment, #bringit with a Canon camera, and print their own holiday cards of family and friends, snow angel photos, and their favorite shots from the experience with a Canon PIXMA printer on site.

Be sure to check out the Canon North Pole PIXMA app. It’s so cute! You can write, draw, and create your holiday wish list then watch as it’s sent to Santa’s workshop, where he gets it right off of his Canon PIXMA printer. The kids will have fun with it for sure.

So be there and #bring with Canon, this SATURDAY at Hollywood & Highland! Can’t wait to see you!

Pretty Prudent Wishlist: Our Favorite Kids’ Books of the Year

Kids' books
Book Wishlist
This year there has been a big wave of incredible kids’ books being published. Some have only pictures, others have only words, some have big lessons, others are all about being silly and fun. For this wishlist we  focused on our favorite books that have come out this year (and a few others we just couldn’t pass up sharing). I assure you they also have a Scarlet, Clare, Quinn, and Gordon stamp of approval.   We love hearing about new titles, so please feel free to share your favorite kids’ books in the comments below!

Check out our kids’ book wishlists of the past: Our Favorite Summer Reading Books | Wishlist for the Little Reader 2013 | Kids’ Books Gift Guide 2012

Dallas Clayton’s new book, Lily the Unicorn is a must for their holiday book collection. Follow Lily the Unicorn as she teachers her friend, Roger the penguin, that he shouldn’t be afraid of trying new things, because the world is a wonderfully amazing and exciting place.

Shel Silverstein’s classic, Where the Sidewalk Ends: Poems and Drawings, is celebrating its 40th anniversary by adding in twelve new poems to this already wonderful collection.

Mac Barnett, the other of a one of our favorite books, Extra Yarn, has a new book out this year – Telephone. This witty book plays off the childhood game by the same name. See what happens when Mama Bird tries to get the other birds to relay a message to her son to come home for dinner.

The Book with No Pictures proves you can’t judge a book by its cover. B.J. Novak’s seemingly serious cover is just a disguise for the hilarity that ensues inside.

book wishlist 3

The monotonous act of digging a hole becomes a mighty adventure for these two in Sam and Dave Dig a Hole.

I am Albert Einstein (Ordinary People Change World) is one of the many incredible books in this biography collection for kids. You can also read all about Abraham Lincoln, Amelia Earhart, and many more influential figures throughout history in this bestselling series.

book wishlist 2

Have You Seen My Dragon? – a creative spin on a counting book for kids with intricate pen-and-ink illustrations that detail a little boy who hunts up,down, and all around the city for his dragon friend.

Jumping Jack does not exactly perform like the famous, champion show-jumping horse he is. Thankfully, his loyal rider is prepared to get right down to the root of the problem and show Jumping Jack that friends stick together.

book wishlist 6

Journey – no words are needed when the illustrations bring this story to life. This beautifully illustrated book pays homage to the classic, Harold and the Purple Crayon, as a little girl sets out on an epic adventure with her magical red crayon in hand.

We are big fans of Emily Winfield Martin and will definitely have Day Dreamers: A Journey of Imagination on our lists this year. Through Emily’s beautiful artwork and storytelling, she encourages kids to create their own magical adventures right in their own imaginations.

Sometimes making The Most Magnificent Thing can be a little harder than you expected. When this little girl tries to make just that, she finds it isn’t as easy as she expected and wants to quit, but her faithful dog encourages her to try, try again.

Kids can create their own pop-up book with A Tiger in My Garden: A Do-It-Yourself Pop-Up Book. The book comes with shapes and instructions for how to build each page. Once you’re done, see the magical gardens you created all over the world.

book wishlist 5

The World of Mamoko in the Year 3000 will keep you totally entertained as it encourages kids to create their own narrative, while also keeping their eyes open wide to find all the hidden treasures in this look-and-find book.

I was immediately captivated by The Bear’s Sea Escape just flipping through the pages. Beautifully detailed illustrations set the stage for the thrilling adventure Papa Bear goes on to find Little Bear. Never did he expect to take a journey from the Paris Opera House to the ocean!

book wishlist 9

Professor Astro Cat’s Frontiers of Space is a great start for teaching kids big concepts like the universe. Professor Astro Cat breaks down topics such as time, gravity, and more in a book that is totally out of this world.

Do you follow Humans of New York on Instagram?  If so, you are already familiar with the brilliant street photographer, Brandon Stanton. If not, I highly suggest you do. Brandon has taken to the streets photographing the little humans this time, and created his own story in this new picture book, Little Humans.

book wishlist 10

An unexpected friendship grows between one adorable penguin and his treasured pinecone in Salina Yoon’s Penguin and Pinecone.

Sparky! the sloth might not do very much, but he sure does make one irresistible pet. When a famous author and the production designer of Coraline come together, you know they are going to make something special.
