Last Days of Summer Tank Top

Last Days of Summer Tank Top
Lately I have been gravitating towards more relaxed looks that revolve around breathable fabrics that don’t cling in the heat. This has put me on the hunt for a loose top that I can pair with pretty much anything. After a few weeks of looking for the perfect one, I got antsy and just made one of my own. I like to call this my Last Days of Summer Tank Top, but it can really work all year long. Faith is wearing it here with a cute pair of black pants, an Apolis market bag, and my new favorite pair of sandals ever. I’ve also worn this top with jean shorts and sandals for a day at the beach. This is a pretty simple afternoon project that can take only about thirty minutes to make. Let’s get started!

Children’s Activity Atlas : An Interactive & Fun Way to Explore Your World

Children's Activity Atlas_Cover

Throughout the years the Pretty Prudent kiddos have traveled to quite a few places around the world, from the the castles of Norway, to the Black Hills of South Dakota. Since they are still pretty young, it’s not always easy for them to grasp the entirety of the world, people, and cultures. When we received a copy of Children’s Activity Atlas: An Interactive & Fun Way to Explore Your World it seemed like the perfect solution.

Giveaway: Children's Activity Atlas

Inside Children’s Activity Atlas you will find colorful maps with images pointing out key features about each area. Along with a plethora of visa and flag stickers, you’ll also find a sheet of postcards and their very own passport to keep track of their travels.

Giveaway: Children's Activity Atlas

Learn fun facts as you fill this book out like, “China produces more tea than any other country in the world,” and “Coral looks like a plant but it is really made up of thousands of tiny, brightly colored animals.” There are also Fact Files about each continent that point out the longest mountain ranges, longest river, desert, and more.

We have loved our copies of Children’s Activity Atlas so much that today we are going to be giving away a copy to one of you!

The Instant Playdate with a Side of Fries

This post is sponsored by McDonald’s. My opinions are my own, especially my opinion that they have the best French Fries, because they totally do.
Mcdonalds playdateClose your eyes and envision this scenario with me.  It’s a random Monday afternoon and you have work to do, yet you are home with your:
A. One
B. Three
C. Six small children.

They are screaming because:
A. They are sick of looking at each other.
B. You are ignoring them because you are trying to get work done.
C. It’s just what kids do.

You wish you could:
A. Send them out to the street to play with the neighborhood kids.
B. Forget your deadline and go to the playground.
C. Hide in the corner of a dark bathroom.

But you can’t because:
A. It’s not 1973 so people will call the cops.
B. Baby needs a new pair of shoes and it’s raining/106 degrees out.
C. They’ve figured out all your hiding places.

How will you accomplish anything other than making it through the day unscathed? As a work-from-home mama, I get it: It’s impossible. Or so it seems. Let me tell you one of my secrets, don’t even try to laugh at me because I am here to help. (more…)

Flower Friday: Yarn Bombing Blooms

Yarn-Bombing-Blooms
Yarn bombing, guerilla knitting, urban knitting. Call it what you want, this popular trend is making its mark all over the world, one stitch at a time. This week we are bringing the fad to fresh flowers as a special way to gift a single bloom.

Flower Friday: Yarn Bombing Blooms
Yarn bombing your blooms takes about five to ten minutes, and is a great excuse to add more yarn to your wine rack yarn collection. Experiment and have fun with it by yarn bombing bouquets, corsages, and boutonnières.

Flower Friday: Yarn Bombing Blooms
After I made a bunch, I went around Downtown LA and gave them to friends. They were a hit!

DIY Suede Passport Cover for a Getaway to Mexico!

suede passport cover
Today I got to surprise the girls with the news that we are taking a getaway to Riviera Maya next week. To make it a little extra momentous (as if a trip to Mexico needs to be a bigger deal) I crafted up a couple of cute suede covers for their brand new passports. Um, they are excited.

We will be spending a long weekend as guests of Generations Riviera Maya for the debut of Little Eko Chefs, a first-of-its-kind program, incorporating historical and cultural facts, eco-friendly food basics, and hands-on cooking opportunities. It sounds like a dream for foodie families like mine (my girls love to cook, bake, and eat, just like their mama.) After this launch weekend, the program will be held every weekday at the Little Eko Kids Club.

Hosted by MasterChef Junior’s Season 1 Winner, Alexander Weiss, The Little Eko Chefs weekend is offered complimentary to guests staying August 15 – 17, 2014. All Little Eko Chefs participants will be awarded a special certificate after completing the class – offering them a personal memento of their vacations and testament to their new gastronomic skills!
If you are thinking about joining in the fun, here’s a video that Jaime made when she visited Riviera Maya a few years ago, I hope we can sneak away to Tulum!

These little passport covers were the perfect way to surprise the girls with the news of our trip. Read on for the simple steps to make a few of your own. (more…)
