A Day at the Arboretum

On of my goals for 2012 is to improve my photography and truly learn how to use my camera. Last month I was inspired by a great article from Clickin’ Moms about tips for successfully photographing kids. Since that post, I’ve been gathering a wealth of valuable information which has greatly influenced the technical side of my shooting and also my processing/retouching of images. I’ve discovered Action Sets, some that you can even find for free on the Clickin Moms boards.

I love how the 1.8mm f-stop creates bokeh (blurred background) in these photos. they almost look like paintings.

Every morning I look at this head of curls and tell myself that I need a good picture to always remember them like this.

One Minute/One Cookie: How to Make a Single Microwave Chocolate Chip Cookie in A Minute

Sometimes you just want a cookie. Not a whole batch of cookies, just one single delicious chocolatey treat. Well now you can have a single microwave cookie, in just a couple minutes with this recipe for microwave cookie dough!
Image of Microwave Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Oh, how we love making ourselves single serve treats in cups and mugs and plates using our microwave. Our Cup of Coffee Cake (in under five minutes) is our most popular post of all time, and 2-Minute French Toast in a Cup isn’t far behind. Now we have a recipe for microwave cookie dough to make yourself a one-minute chocolate chip microwave cookie on a plate. This could not be easier.

Now, a microwave cookie is not going to have a crispy browned exterior like a baked cookie, so don’t expect it to be exactly the same as your mom’s famous recipe. But what it does have is ooey, gooey, melty chocolate chips. And this microwave cookie dough can be ready in a minute. And you can make just one at a time. So it’s got some things going for it.

Don’t forget to check out Jaime’s Lazy Late Night Cooking Corner for more microwaveable treats like, Single Serve Cinnamon Roll, Rice Krispy Treat, Blueberry Cobbler, and Strawberry Shortcake for Two.

Let’s get to making a chocolate chip microwave cookie on a plate…

Leather Bow Bracelet

I think I have found my favorite spring accessory and the best part is it’s completely do it yourself. My jaw just about dropped when I first saw these on Maikitten. Of course they would look absolutely adorable on the little ones, but mamas this is also something that can be made just for you. Oooh mommy and me matching bracelets could be perfect for Easter.

Along with Maikitten’s cool DIY projects, you can also keep up with new Art and Design, sewing projects, and great tips for things to do and see in Berlin. Which reminds me, the site is almost 100% written in German, a quick click on google translate can change that.

Without further ado, take it away Maikitten

Mommy Tags

Do you remember those lovely ear warmers we posted way back when? Those were created by the very talented Delia from Delia Creates. Guess what? She’s back with her new project, Mommy Tags. These are a perfect way to remind your kids that you love them without totally smothering them in front of their friends (but then again, that is also too much fun not to do). Delia created these Mommy Tags as part of her Nesting Series while she was expecting her newest and cutest little addition, Natalie. Along with these Mommy Tags she also combined fruits and beanies to create Freshly Picked Baby Hats and made the prettiest Basket Weave Crochet Baby Blanket.

Now, I’ll cut the chatter and let Delia take over from here…

Let’s Go to Mexico…

I want to take you on a little vacation with me in this video. If you haven’t visited the Riviera Maya yet, push it the top of your list. Between Chichen Itza, the beaches of Tulum, the first Unesco World Heritage cuisine, and the year round warm weather, this area of Mexico down on the Yucatan Peninsula will steal your heart. A few recommendations – hire an anthropologist to guide you as you visit Maya ruins (Catherwood Travels can’t be beat, and I can now read Maya hieroglyphics – well at least I can read the calendar). I very much enjoyed the Blue Diamond in Playa Del Carmen, and cannot recommend Ana y Jose in Tulum highly enough. Definitely spend an afternoon on Cozumel taking an off-the-beaten path food tour with Cozumel Chef. Oh, and relax… (more…)
